Car-Sharing Propaganda

Deconstructing an image

Medium - Digital, originally printmaking
Material(s) - Light, originally on paper
Aesthetic qualities - This image today would be sublime for the darker toned colors and the expression of the man.
Subject matter - The image is about a joining a car-sharing club
Composition - The focal point is the man driving and the silhouette next to him
Formal elements -The lines and form are 3 dimensional. There is also a negative area is the black bottom of the car along with the yellow on top. All the colors are toned down but still eye catching fitting in with the era color palette
Gesture - The American has a look of swagger and calmness
Lighting - From the top right corner due to the yellow negative space created.
Dimension - The dimension is only around 11" as I am looking at it from my laptop screen
Location - On my laptop.
Display - On my laptop.

As this is from the 1940s, this ad would fit the cultural norm due to the war going on. The government was encouraging everyone to carpool as with less cars on the road, less resources would need to be used. They used the silhouette of Hitler to add an "scare factor" to the minds of Americans.
