Nuke Propaganda

Aesthetic qualities - This image today would be sublime for the darker toned colors express an apoptotic society. People had probably never imagined something like this, adding to the sublimity.
Subject matter - The image is about nuking the enemy before they can to us. 
Composition - The focal point is the bottom runner with the picture of the atomic bomb going off
Formal elements -The lines and form are 3 dimensional.The colors are toned down but still eye catching. The "American" colors suchas the red and blue really grabs the readers attention. 
Gesture - The American has a look of shock and scarceness

When the atomic bomb was being developed scientists knew it was going to change the way we fight wars with its sheer power of destruction. They were able to justify using this action by scaring Americans into not wanting the destruction to happen them with this scene of propaganda.

During World War II, soldiers were not only fighting but also exploring the "lands" they were defending. The Department of Defense found that many soldiers were falling ill in battle due to sexually transmitted diseases. This ad was probably put in barracks of all the branches to encourage the use of not using prostitutes.

As this is from the 1940s, this ad would fit the cultural norm due to the war going on. The government was encouraging everyone to carpool as with less cars on the road, less resources would need to be used. They used the silhouette of Hitler to add an "scare factor" to the minds of Americans. 

Enemy Propaganda Ad

Subject matter - The image is about the dangers Germany and Japan could bring to the citizens of America just through propaganda.

This negative space also "fall" throughout the ad as if it were bomb sparks. All the colors are toned down but still eye catching. The red really grabs the readers attention.

As this is from the 1940s, this ad would fit the cultural norm. The US government knew the age of newspaper and information was growing. They did not want people to see propaganda from the axes powers making it look like we were fighting an unjust war.

WeightWatchers Ad

Composition - The focal points are the two doors. The colors all seem very sublime adding to the simplicity of the picture.

The contemporary Weight Watcher's ad is simple yet complex. It is not flashy with a lot of words and colors but just simply states "Weight Watchers." The two different door sizes make the consumer think deeper about the message in the ad. The colors make the ad feel cozy and comfortable leading the consumer to think the weight loss experience through this company will be the same.
