Deconstructing an image

Material(s) - Light, originally on paper
Aesthetic qualities - This image today would be heart warming as the children catch one's eye.
Subject matter - The image is about two "All-American" kids eating their freshly made cake with Hershey's frosting.
Composition - The focal point is the Hershey's title. The colors and the look of the words being 3D grabs the consumer's attention.
Formal elements -The lines and form are 3 dimensional. There is also a negative area all in the green. All the colors in this are very bright and vibrant: drawing a consumer into the ad. The children are healthy with bright red rosy cheeks.
Lighting - The light is coming in from the right side of the picture. This is shown when the light is reflecting off the kids' hair.
Dimension - The dimension is only around 11" as I am looking at it from my laptop screen

This early 1950 ad represents the American dream. Hershey not only advertised one product but two.These white children are having the time of their lives eating this cake made from their Hershey products. Mothers who saw this would then believe if they use Hershey, they too can have a positive response with their children.
