Composition - The focal point is the cigarette itself
Formal elements -The lines and form are 3 dimensional. There is also a negative area all in the red. All the colors in this are very bright and vibrant: drawing a consumer into the ad. The dentist is also very tan making him more physically appealing, drawing women into the ad also.
Gesture - The dentist's eyes and tooth mirror draw you into the ad. He is also very tan making him more physically appealing, drawing women into the ad also.
Lighting - From the center to the edges, the color is pretty vibrant throughout the entire ad.

As this is from the 1940s, this ad would fit the cultural norm. The consumers would be interested that the dentist approve as well as the cartoon of cigarettes. Subtly, one could see how the carton resembles a war medal and ribbon. The ad is focused on men returning from WWII who wish to stay true to their roots as well as trying to be health conscious.
